WHAT IS A PUNCH NEEDLE?

(All needle brands have a small needle for Russian Punch!)

A Punch needle is an easy to use tool that opens up a delightful world of dimensional needleart. It quickly and easily produces one-level or exciting three dimensional designs for many uses with One Simple Stitch (shown above). The technique of ironing a transfer pattern onto cotton/polyester fabric, then punching yarn, floss or ribbon into the fabric to fill design areas with color is all it takes. Like coloring with a crayon! Easier and faster than any other needlework! From ages 6 to 106, man, woman or child, you can do it. It doesn't ask for a 'perfect' technique - only that you punch enough stitches to fill the areas on your design. Its so easy to do and you have something nice without a lot of effort. Once you transform a piece of fabric into a dimensional design with your first try, you're hooked!

About fabric ... only a cotton/polyester blend will work for punchneedle, the usual one being weavers cloth that is 60% polyester/40% cotton and is available in white, natural, khaki. 100% cotton fabric will not work and will give you problems. Weavers cloth is hard to find in fabric shops but we carry it always. However other more expensive fabrics that look sharp as a background for your designs have been found and thoroughly tested to be workable too and can be found under the fabrics listing, so you do have a choice.

Punch needles are stay-sharp, highly polished stainless steel hollow tubes (in varying sizes) with an eye, inserted into a shaped comfort-fit handle for punching special yarn or threads into a woven fabric to create dramatic textures and combinations, for example: flat...looped...contour... sculptured. Never boring!

What is the difference between needle brands?

Punch Needles differ slightly in circumferance - Russian punch needles are slightly smaller than Traditional punch needles. The final results remain the same. We have them all. All punch needles are adjustable for loop length. Depending on the needle selected, it has slide, dial or tube graduated needle lengths for precision. All give you the same finished results. Some have very short handles and may not work well for those with arthritis, but a longer handle will be more comfortable to use.

Available in five (5) sizes...Extra small, Small, Medium, Large and Rug Needles. Sold individually or sold in set of 3 or 4 (depending on the brand) the needle size determines what fiber to use...from single strand embroidery floss to 2-ply acrylic yarn, luster yarn, varigated yarn, metallics, ribbon, double strands of yarns or heavy rug yarns. From miniatures to rugs and everything in between, it's easy with the proper needle size.

We charge shipping only on the actual weight of the package using the postal service shipping chart. Computers cannot weigh a package so they 'guess' at the shipping which is always wrong. We pay no attention to the computer shipping which is always high - we use only the postal service chart. A small insurance fee, determined by package value, is added to the postage to cover possible package loss during shipping. Usually about a $1.00.

We ship the same day an order comes into our office unless it comes in late afternoon after the postal service has picked up our orders for the day. Then we ship first thing the next morning. If we have questions about your order we will email or phone you for instructions before shipping.
